[Archived] Time for a new community playthrough?
I know we have a few hours to go, but I thought I should find the game. Which I did, but the box art gave me a scare. Right above the Still Life label is something that looks like III. I’m saying to myself, “OMG! I voted for the game and all I have is SL2 and SL3.” And SL3 is a known disaster.
Forget the III. If you see it on your box, it is the right game. I have not installed. But we’re only a few hours away from Lady K’s “Gentle People, Start Your Engines!”
Is there an Still Life III? Never heard before.
As soon as Laky K gives the OK, I will open the thread.
Currently translating Strangeland into Spanish. Wish me luck, or send me money to my Paypal haha
Oops! The time got away from me. (I had my nose in a good book.) Obviously Still Life won this round, so take it away Walas!
Still Life - (5) - Walas74 (leader), Rtrooney, Nico2021, Chrissie, Sylv
The Neverhood (1) - Charophycean
The Procession to Calvary (1) - Charophycean
Syberia: The World Before (1) - Rtrooney
Time Gentlemen, Please (1) - Charophycean
I don’t really rise and shine. I caffeinate and hope for the best.

Yes. and it was a disaster. It had nothing to do with the first two games, and its inventory management system had people screaming. We shall never speak of it again.
For whom the games toll,
they toll for thee.
I never heard of a Still Life 3 either. If it existed then Microids has done very well to hide its existence.

Probably all copies buried in the dessert with ET…

What are you talking about? There is no Still life 3.

Probably there was Still Life 3. It’s just that Microids called Men in Black…

This is the cover of my (UK version) game where the symbol that looks like a 3 makes more sense!
Still Life’s CPT thread just opened!

I will be there before the end of the day. I could have sworn that the game I’m thinking of was Still Life 3. But apparently it was something else. The inventory system was very odd. It consists of square boxes, two boxes tall and six boxes wide. You must fit your inventory into these boxes. So if you have a ladder that is one box high and five boxes long, it’s going to take up almost half of your available inventory. I remember the strory takes place in and around a two-story house. The protagonist is a female detective who finds herself held captive in the house. That’s about all I remember, other than it was a terrible game.

You’ve just described exactly the presentation of the inventory system in Still Life .

Out of curiosity I watched some YT footage of Still LIfe 2. The inventory system has more than 2 rows & columns but it seems that larger inventory items can occupy more than 1 square. Also most of the gameplay seems to take place in a 2-storey building - I know I didn’t like this game as much as the first one & I got bored so it took me a few months to finally finish it.
Just wondering whether that’s the game you’re thinking of Tim!
I can’t think of any other games where you have to juggle inventory items to fit the squares?

I think you mean Still Life 2. I’m playing Still Life, as are you, and the inventory system seems to be one item per square regardless of size.

Strange, since I recall liking the second game more than the first. However, it’s been 17 years since I played the first game and 13 since I played the second. So my memory is a little fuzzy.

Maybe if I find myself with a little extra time I’ll download SL2 and play the opening scenes. I should know within the first half hour whether the game I think is titled SL3 is actually SL2.

- The game you are talking about with the two store buildings and the inventory that is supposedly a mess is Still life 2, where you control Victoria and a journalist.
- Still life 1 is the one you are about to play in the community playthrough.
That’s it.

In a way Still Life 2 is really Still Life 3, because Post Mortem was the first game in the series and Still Life was its sequel, only with a different title, setting, protagonist and a different style of presentation.
So rtrooney is correct in a way.
AKA Charo
You can’t be correct “in a way”, either you are correct or you are not.
If we say that then let’s simply say that Postmortem is actually StillLife 1 and keep adding more confusion.
PostMortem is a prequel that later led to StillLife, and there are only two Still Life games, not three, not one, two.
